Being a 8 year old when this game came out, I wasn't sure what to expect. I didn't have access to video game magazines growing up, as we didn't have a lot of spare money outside of an occasional Birthday or Christmas. Just two months prior to release, I was lucky enough to recieve Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for my birthday and played that game to death. I knew that It would take another year before I would even get a change to play this game.
However, my 12 year old brother recieved a few Toys-R-Us gift cards for his birthday and decided that he wanted to spend this money on the new Wario Land game on the day it was released. For what felt like an eternity (only a month), I watched over my brother's shoulder as he played this game, seemingly day and night. I wanted to play this badly.
I finally got my chance, when he accepted a "trade" when my brother got bored of Wario Land, and decided he wanted to play Super Mario Land 2, which was my game. From the first level on, I was hooked.
GAMEPLAY
Playing as the Antagonist from Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins, Wario gets his own distinct spin-off game with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Using a similar formula to its predecessor, Wario Land was an instant hit. Wario can collect three different power ups, from the dragon cap that shoots fire, the bull cap that allows Wario to obliterate most things with ease and the jet cap that allows Wario to glide long distances through the air.
The game doesn't provide too much of a challenge to experienced platform players, but it is still a great game that everyone should play at least once, especially if you are a fan of the Original Gameboy.
REPLAYABILITY
While a platformer doesn't normally have much replayability, this game does has there are trinkets hidden throughout the worlds. Depending on how many coins and trinkets you get effects the ending of the game.
RATING 4.7 Antlers out of 5. I don't think you can get much better then Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 when it comes to making a game on the Game Boy
